Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD. Man, I really wanted to put a Jim Steranko-type, psycadelic background in here, but I simply didn't have the time. At least I was able to put two of my favorite supporting characters from the series, Agents Valentina Allegra di Fontaine and Dum Dum Dugan in there.

13. Spidey Super Stories

Bill describes Spidey Super Stories as "the kid-friendly comic book spinoff from the Spider-Man segments of the Electric Company". Now, it may be the large amounts of cold medicine talking, but I seem to recall that on an episode of "the Electric Company" Spidey dressed up in a suit & tie over his costume so he would not be recognized ... But like I said, I may be a bit delusional...

How is it that Tales from the Bully Pulpit has not been made into a major motion picture yet? I realize that the WGA is on strike at the moment, and I wholeheartedly support the writers, but let's settle this thing and get to work on an adaptation!
Just listen to this pitch: Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Edison's ghost steal H.G. Wells’ time machine in order to travel into the future so they can stop Hitler from destroying an entire race of blue Martians. Then throw in a special appearance from Abraham Lincoln and what do you have? Box office GOLD, my friend.

Lockjaw! I really used to love watching lockjaw run around with the inhumans in the mystery machine thwarting would-be criminals. Wait, maybe i'm thinking of someone else.
In any event, it's Elvis Presley's birthday, so put on some "Suspicious Minds" and fry up some peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Delicious!

7. Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos

This is one of the greatest things ever published! I'm serious! Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos. Look! The title alone just gave you a black eye! And anyone who can inspire a site like this is at the apex of awesome in my book.

Not only is Grant Morrison a great writer, but look at that clean-shaven face! SO much quicker to draw. (I'm looking at you Alan.)

Now, I love Alan Moore's work as much as anyone, I truly do. But have you ever tried to draw a beard of such a fractious magnitude?! Damn your unruly beard, Mr. Moore! I need some sleep.

3. Will Eisner

Day three, and we have another legend of the industry. Will Eisner is one of my all time favorite creators, in any medium. I like to compare him to Dean Martin because he's as smooth as a peeled egg. I guess if Eisner is Dean Martin, then Jack Kirby would be Frank Sinatra.
...Yeah, that works for me.

2. Stan Lee

Reason #2: Stan "the Man" Lee
The man is an Icon. Half brilliant creator, and half (how did Bill put it?) "bat-guano insane". Two great things that go great together. Just the mention of his name puts a smile on my face.

They called him "King", and rightly so. He is, and always will be the Frank Sinatra of comics.

365 Reasons to Love Comics

I wish I would have come across this earlier.
Bill Reed over at Comics Should Be Good started (and finished) a great list of things to love about comics. In his words: "a daily, yearlong look at what makes comics great. Some reasons are obvious, some are totally obscure; all of them, however, are reasons to love comics."
I love the idea, and the list is great!
This has given me the ridiculous notion that it would be a good idea to do a sketch-a-day to go along with the list. Is it even possible? We'll find out together.

Once again I'm going to use the "sidekick" theme over at the Drawing Board to tie into the Illustration Friday subject "scale".
Here we have Etta Candy the once, how do they say... ...um, ...Rotund young sidekick of Wonder Woman during the 1940s.
She has since been retconed into a career Air Force officer. Much more respectable, but not nearly as fun & sassy.
At some point I would like to color this pic, but I guess only time will tell if I've got the... well, ...time.

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately... Don’t look at me with those accusatory eyes! I’ve been very very busy!

I thought with the recent release of the new Bond flic Casino Royale, I’d do a little Bond sketch. And it looks like I’m not the only one, those fine folks over at The Drawing Board have some pretty nifty renderings too.
Daniel Craig may just bring a hint of that 'ole Connery toughness back to the franchise.
I have yet to see the film... too busy...

Wow! This is pretty damn cool.
Mark Mazz of Guild Works Productions just sent me a “trailer“ for the new Psychosis! book. I happily lent my pencil to one of the four covers.

IF: Change

It always struck me funny that comic heros would need nothing more than a pair of glasses to change their appearance. Enough so, that co-workers or even a close friend could not recognize them.
I actually tried this once, it was amazing! I borrowed my grandfathers glasses, went down to the nearest bus-stop and no one there had a clue as to who I was!
In the case of the Spirit, Denny Colt dons a “domino” mask to conceal his identity. I suppose the fact that he was thought to be dead keeps people from suspecting.
The Spirit was created by Will Eisner. One of the greatest and most influential creators of all time, not to mention, one of my personal Idols.

Beware the CREEPER!

I was just recently turned on to the practice of warm-ups, and this is a recent result. It makes a load of sense, and people have been doing it for... ... ...well, ever.
& here I thought I was on the razor’s edge... The pencil’s edge?... Marker?

Sittin' at the Bar

I do these pages in my “free” time. The problem is that I seem to have less and less of it, so it takes me for-ev-er to finish 'em. ...and my sleep is starting to suffer.

Well, I said that I would post the Guild Works Productions' cover to “Psychosis”, so here’s the mock that Mark sent to me. From what I understand the final cover won’t look much different than it does here. Hopefully I will be able to post my original pencils soon too. I’ve just been so busy. Yeah, I know you’ve heard it all before ... but it doesn't make it any less true.

Our Flag Was Still There...

This is page number one of “Our Flag Was Still There”, a story written by Jason DeGroot about the times following the 9-11 terrorist attacks and how we perceived our American flag. Very compelling stuff, I just hope I’m able to do the script justice.
Oh, I think the paint is still a little wet in that one corner, so try to be careful.

Once again, I’ve been hard at work with various projects, and as soon as I can I’ll post some of the other work I’ve completed. Including a cover for Guild Works Productions' “Psychosis”. Not to mention s'more interior pages from “the Kwiddex Protocol”.

Who Farted?!

Here is the latest from the Kwiddex Protocol from Repercussion Comics.
This is actually a pretty serious scene from the story, but I can’t help but make that childish comment about the look on Jerry’s face in the second panel. It doesn’t help that it almost looks like he is sniffing his sleeve in the last panel... Ha... Lowbrow humor. Hello, old friend.

As Close to Perfection as I’ll Ever Get.

On Thursday morning, June 22nd at 7:08 a.m., my daughter Courtland Marie (perfection in blue) was joined by her sister Sophia Irene (perfection in pink).
I won’t sit here and gloat, as I have too much work to do. I will however say; It’s good to be the King!
