Who Farted?!

Here is the latest from the Kwiddex Protocol from Repercussion Comics.
This is actually a pretty serious scene from the story, but I can’t help but make that childish comment about the look on Jerry’s face in the second panel. It doesn’t help that it almost looks like he is sniffing his sleeve in the last panel... Ha... Lowbrow humor. Hello, old friend.

More to come soon.

Roll that beautiful bean footage...

I kind of doubt that’s what’s on the tape Jerry is focused on, but hey - I can hope.

...What can I say, I like beans

As Close to Perfection as I’ll Ever Get.

On Thursday morning, June 22nd at 7:08 a.m., my daughter Courtland Marie (perfection in blue) was joined by her sister Sophia Irene (perfection in pink).
I won’t sit here and gloat, as I have too much work to do. I will however say; It’s good to be the King!

The Protocol of KWIDDEX

Here are a couple more preview pages from issue #1 of the Kwiddex Protocol.
I don’t think it’s giving too much away by revealing that our lead Character, Jerry is getting sent home by his Captain.

Not Dead, Just Sleeping

Wha?! ...Must have dozed off for a second. ...humpft!

Actually, I’ve just been EXTRA busy lately.
No, really! What? You don’t believe me? I can prove it!
Here are just a few pages from the Kwiddex Protocol, a book I’m illustrating for Repercussion Comics written by Jason DeGroot.

So there!

IF/MM: FAT

There were so many possible ways to have taken this Illustration Friday topic. To keep up with the Mythic Monday theme here I went with a corpulent troublemaker from Celtic Mythology: Conán mac Morna. Conán was also known as "the bald". He was a member of the Fianna. Headed by Fionn mac Cumhail (AKA: Finn mac Cool), the Fianna has been compared to the knights of the round table. It has even been speculated that the Aurthurian legend may have been based on the stories of the Fianna. Though Conán mac Morna was known to be hot-headed, he was also known to be very brave and loyal to Fionn. Check out more here: http://www.shee-eire.com.

IF/MM: Under the Sea

Well once again it’s time for MYTHIC MONDAY! (on Tuesday)
The Illustration Friday topic is “Under the Sea” and so, I waded back into some familiar territory: Norse Mythology to take on one of the nine daughters of Ægir.
Ægir is a giant (or Jotun) and he rules all that exists beneath the waves. Hence his nine daughters are names for types of waves.
His Billow Maidens are:
Himinglæva - That through which one can see the heaven.
Dúfa - The Pitching One.
Blóðughadda - Bloody-Hair.
Uðr - Frothing Wave.
Hrönn - Welling Wave.
Bylgja - Billow.
Dröfn - Foam-Fleck.
Kólga - Poetical term for Wave. "The Cool One"
and here we have Hefring - Riser.
Ægir is known to throw huge parties for the Norse gods. His daughters would help him brew ale in a gigantic pot in preparation for these parties. So I imagine Hefring would be kind of like a giant Paris Hilton.

Your actions have Repercussions

I am very excited to announce that as of May 1st, Repercussion Comics can proudly say it's a monthly small press publisher!  They are making a commitment to publish at least one new comic a month, and in most cases several!  They've got a wide range of titles and genres to choose from, including Green Piece: Galactic Detective, Worldwide Solutions, The Colony, and Kreetor.
Not to mention a little title that I just happen to have intimate knowledge of: the Kwiddex Protocol.

Pop on over to the Repercussion Comics site: (www.repercussioncomics.com) and check out all they have to offer.  There's a bunch more information on the SUBSCRIPTIONS page: www.repercussioncomics.com/subscribe.htm and on the always informative NEWS page: http://repercussioncomics.wordpress.com
Special thanks to Jason DeGroot

Oh Lucy...

I was so unhappy with my recent IF/MM offering that I just had to post something else. So I did this for a Drawing Jam over at http://www.drawingboard.org. There are some really great ones! I highly suggest you pop in and check them out.

IF/MM: ROBOT

Well, With all else that had to get done this weekend, I very nearly skipped this Illustration Friday topic. (You should get so lucky!) At first, I struggled as to how I would be able to make a robot tie into my Mythic Monday feature, but I eventually settled on an item from Jewish folklore; the GOLEM.
Dictionary.com describes the golem as such: "n 1: an artificially created human being that is given life by supernatural means 2: a mechanism that can move automatically [syn: automaton, robot]".
So there you have it! Above is pictured a techno-golem. (I may need to work on the name).

IF/MM: SPOTTED

I chose to depict the leopard or “spotted” Tokkaebi, but they have also been seen in tiger or “striped” hides. The Tokkaebi is a mythical creature of Korean origins. Not a spirit per se, the Tokkaebi usually transforms from everyday household objects that have not been used in a while. So if you haven’t vacuumed recently... maybe now is the time. They are aligned with the negative energy in the universe, (Yin) but this does not necessarily mean the Tokkaebi are evil. Don’t get me wrong, they love to use their silver spiked club to punish the mean & spiteful, but they are almost as likely to use that same magical club to reward good and kind people with wealth or good blessings.

IF/MM: SPEED

I used the Illustration Friday topic “Speed” to represent the subject and the way in which I drew it. Opting for a quick sketch rather than a polished piece.
Now, you might be asking yourself “How will you tie this in with Mythic Monday? Especially now that it’s Wednesday?” But it’s much more likely that you could not care less.
NANABOZHO is a trickster spirit of Ojibwe mythology (sometimes known as Chippewa). He was sent to earth by the creator of all things, Gitchi Manitou after the world’s creation to name all of the plants and animals. When you need to list everything in the newly created world, you don’t turn yourself into a tortoise.

American Gothic

This is the start of a gig poster that never got off of the ground. This and the Leprechaun from St. Pat’s day post are some early attempt at digital coloring.

IF/MM: SPRING

It didn’t take long for me to decide how to tie my Mythic Monday theme with this week’s Illustration Friday topic: Spring. It still managed to take up more of my time than I intended...
Above is pictured the reemergence of Persephone.
In Greek mythology she is the beautiful young daughter of Zeus and Demeter (Goddess of the harvest). When Hades (King of the underworld) abducts Persephone to be his bride, Demeter goes into a great depression and the earth itself grows cold and ceases to be fertile. Hades Reluctantly agrees to return Persephone to the surface world, but only for 2/3 of the year. He binds her to the underworld by having her eat the seeds of a pomegranate.
I wonder what happens if she sees her shadow...

Current Project

Here is a panel from a project I’m currently working on for Repercussion Comics. It’s called “Our Flag Was Still There”, and it’s written by the extremely talented Jason DeGroot. It’s something I’m pretty proud to be a part of so I wanted to share it here with you fine people. It’s not finished yet, so keep under your hat.

Illustration Friday: Monster

I’m going to take this Illustration Friday topic as an opportunity to debut a feature I was talking about in a previous post.
Hence, it shall be known as... MYTHIC MONDAY!
I’m in the process of re-imagining heros, beasts, artifacts and etc. from mythology (all sources of myth, not just the big-’uns). I’ll try to post new sketchbook pages of the work-in-progress here on Mondays. The sketches may not always be linked to Illustration Friday topics, but they will be when applicable, for the sake of my own sanity.
Who knows, we all just might learn something...

Jörmungandr, the World Serpent- In Norse Mythology this is a venomous sea-serpent so large it actually encircles the earth and is able to grasp it’s own tail. In the apocalyptic battle of Ragnarök, (the battle at the end of the world between the gods and their enemies) Jörmungandr and Thor are destined to destroy each other.

How’s that for a bed-time story?

Self Portrait

Well, maybe that’s not quite accurate.
The monkey slightly edges me out on style.
... and personality.
... and looks.

Regardless, I’m still going to use this for my profile picture.

Illustration Friday: Feet

I don’t think it makes me any less of a man to admit that I still can’t watch this scene without my hands over my face... and my blankie.
